Install Your Sail.

We manufacture and ship your sail rather than installing it, so installation is DIY. Our step-by-step guides make the process straightforward, or a local handyman or shade installer will be able to complete the installation if preferred.

Attach one corner, then the diagonally opposite corner next, followed by the remaining corners. It's best to start with the highest corner, and finish on a low corner, to spread the load and help stop the sail twisting. Loop a rope through the last, tightest corner to pull it into reach, keeping turnbuckles wound fully out. See the full guide.

Firm and wrinkle-free, but not so tight it distorts the fabric or overloads the hardware. Tension gradually by winding each turnbuckle a little at a time, working around the sail so it tensions evenly. On wire edges, set the wire grips first. Our tensioning guide covers the full process.

For most residential sails, installation takes around one to two hours with two people. Larger or multi-sail setups may take longer. Don't rush the final tensioning - it's what gives the sail its clean, professional finish.

Installation is much easier and safer with two people. One person can support and guide the sail while the other connects the hardware and applies tension, making the process safer and helping achieve even tension across the sail.

Usually a ladder, adjustable crescent wrench, small socket wrench, rope and thread lubricant for the fixing hardware. A short length of rope helps connect and tension the final corner. See the install guides for full instructions.

Yes. Stainless-on-stainless threads can seize if not greased, ruining a turnbuckle. A light coat of Nulan grease helps prevent cross-threading and keeps the hardware adjustable for years - a simple but important step to protect your hardware over the life of your sail.

Insert the pins from the top so they sit securely and are easy to inspect. Once the sail is fully tensioned ensure every shackle pin is securely tightened before using the Shade Sail.

Don't force the sail. Reduce the tension slightly and re-check each corner is connected to the correct mounting point (with hems facing down) and using the correct fixing hardware before re-tensioning evenly. Twists are usually caused by uneven tension or attaching the corners out of sequence. If it won't come right, send a photo via contact us.

Yes - for severe weather or high winds, removing your Shade Sail will protect both the fabric and your mounting points. Also it is expected to keep your warranty valid.
Correctly greased and maintained hardware makes removal and reinstallation much quicker.

It can be. A little movement can be normal, but significant flex may indicate the post or footing is undersized for the load. Stop tensioning and inspect and strengthen the posts if needed before continuing.

The installation process is very similar. The main difference is that cable (wire) edge sails have an adjustable wire you set first (via the wire rope grips) before fine-tuning with the turnbuckles, while webbing edges are pre-calculated and tension using the fixing hardware alone. First make sure every turnbuckle is wound fully open and use a rope to draw the final corner within reach. If it still won't reach, check the sail is correctly orientated (hems facing down), each corner is connected using correct hardware and current mounting point measurements still match those used to manufacture the sail. Flapping almost always means the sail isn't tensioned enough or evenly. Re-tension each corner firmly and evenly, making sure the fabric is sitting taut without wrinkles. Ensure all turnbuckles are securely locked off. Maintaining correct tension will help extend the life of your sail.

Yes. If you ordered a complete corner hardware pack or selected individual hardware (shackles, turnbuckles etc.) during the ordering process this will arrive in the same box as your Shade Sail.
